Businessicy – PT Pertamina (Persero), through its subholding Pertamina New and Renewable Energy, is exploring strategic partnership opportunities at the Indonesia-U.S. Business Forum. This forum took place at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Monday, August 26, 2024.
The business forum was held to commemorate 75 years of bilateral relations between Indonesia and the United States.
The significant event was attend by notable figures, including Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago, as well as various government representatives from both Indonesia and the United States, along with business leaders from both countries.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, explained that as a state-owned enterprise (SOE), Pertamina is actively participating in events organized by the Indonesian Embassy in the United States. According to Fadjar, the forum plays a crucial role in opening up opportunities and encouraging Pertamina to become a world-class energy company.
“Pertamina is using this important moment to communicate its sustainability policies and to open up investment. And also collaboration opportunities with global partners, particularly in the field of new and renewable energy development,” Fadjar said in a written statement on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
He also added that Pertamina’s sustainability policies are open to strong collaboration at both the national and international levels.
“Indonesia has significant clean energy resources that can attract international investors. Pertamina continues to work on convincing the international community to support energy transition programs to accelerate the achievement of the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060,” Fadjar added.

John Anis, CEO of Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (PNRE) and a panelist at the forum. Explained that PNRE has a mandate to support the Indonesian government in achieving emission reduction targets.
Additionally, PNRE aims to prepare Pertamina for future business and aspires to become a leader in developing the NZE ecosystem in Indonesia.
“PNRE has allocated substantial capital expenditure (Capex) for new and renewable energy development. By 2029, PNRE’s Capex is projected to reach USD 6.2 billion,” John Anis stated.
He further explain that 63 percent of this Capex is allocate to the development of solar, wind, and geothermal energy. The remaining 18 percent is used for low-carbon solutions, including decarbonization. While 11 percent is allocate for biomass and bioethanol, and 6 percent for future business development.
“PNRE is committed to expanding its business. Therefore, we are open to collaborations with both domestic and international partners. Including those from the United States,” John Anis clarified.
As a leader in energy transition, Pertamina is commit to supporting the achievement of the Net Zero Emission at 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that contribute directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
All these initiatives align with the application of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across Pertamina’s business lines and operations.
