Businessicy – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has reported receiving 10,104 consumer complaints related to illegal financial entities from January to July 2024. The majority of these complaints are concerning illegal online loans (pinjol).
Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Head of the Executive Board for Financial Service Providers Behavior Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection at OJK, stated that from January 1 to July 31, 2024. There have been 10,104 complaints about illegal entities. This information was shared by Friderica during a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday, September 11, 2024.
Friderica, who is commonly known as Kiki, highlighted that the number of complaints regarding illegal online loans has significantly increased over the past two years. In 2022, there were 698 complaints related to illegal online loans. This number surged to 2,248 complaints in 2023. Additionally, complaints about illegal investments have also risen, from 40 complaints in 2023 to 149 complaints through July 2024.
According to Friderica, OJK remains committed to protecting consumer interests through various initiatives, including education and follow-up actions on complaints. However, she acknowledged that OJK cannot handle these issues alone and emphasized the need for cooperation from all stakeholders to address these problems effectively.

Furthermore, OJK plans to establish an Anti-Scam Task Force to address various forms of fraud affecting financial sector customers. This task force will include representatives from consumer protection entities, such as banking institutions. The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), and online marketplaces.
Friderica explained that the creation of the Anti-Scam Task Force is a crucial step, as several countries already have similar units. The task force is expected to serve as a coordination platform among various agencies to handle fraud more efficiently.
“Our goal is to create an anti-scam center that will coordinate efforts to tackle fraud quickly and effectively. Everyone involved is very enthusiastic and supportive of this initiative. Recognizing that many have personal experiences or know someone who has been a victim of fraud,” Friderica said on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
The Anti-Scam Task Force aims to prevent further losses and pursue fraudsters. Additionally, the system will be designed to detect suspicious transaction patterns in specific accounts. “With the establishment of this anti-scam center, we hope that when people realize they have lost money due to fraud,. They can report it promptly so that immediate action can be taken,” she added.
