Businessicy – A series of memorandums of understanding (MOUs) will be signed during the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024, scheduled for September 5-6, 2024. One of these agreements pertains to the electricity export program to Singapore.
Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy for Coordination of Infrastructure and Transportation at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves). Stated that the government is currently in the process of finalizing the MOUs to be signed at ISF 2024.
“Currently, our challenge is not in gathering the partnerships but in finding the right timing for their announcement.” Rachmat mentioned during a press conference at the Kemenko Marves office in Jakarta on Thursday (August 29, 2024).
To date, Rachmat reported that Kemenko Marves has accommodated 10 MOUs ready for signing at ISF 2024. Among these is the plan for exporting electricity to Singapore, with an estimated value reaching billions of dollars.
“Certainly, one of the major agreements is the conditional license for exporting electricity to Singapore. The value could potentially reach billions of dollars, though we will confirm the specifics later,” he revealed.
In addition to electricity exports, ISF 2024 will also focus on various collaborations related to new and renewable energy. One such collaboration involves Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology.
“We are also working on a partnership for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) with Pertamina. This could be quite significant, although we are still working on finalizing the figures,” Rachmat added.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, discussed Indonesia’s plans to export electricity to Singapore during a meeting with several ministers from other countries at The 2nd Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Ministerial Meeting at the St. Regis Hotel, Jakarta, on Wednesday (August 21, 2024).
Airlangga emphasized that developing an interconnected transmission network linking Java and Sumatra is a priority in establishing a regional integrated electricity system, known as the ASEAN Power Grid.
“I also mentioned that this grid will not only connect Java and Sumatra but will also link with the Riau Islands, including Batam-Bintan-Karimun. This project will involve solar panels that Singapore will purchase,” he explained.
“We are preparing multiple transmission channels to Singapore to mitigate maintenance and outage risks, given that it is a highly active transport region,” he added.
In 2023, several Indonesian and Singaporean companies signed memorandums of understanding related to electricity exports. Rachmat Kaimuddin from Kemenko Marves noted that Indonesia is prepared to export 2 gigawatts of low-carbon clean electricity to Singapore.
“We hope this collaboration will position Indonesia as a key player in the global solar PV industry. And provide more alternatives for the global solar PV supply chain,” Rachmat said recently, as reported by Antara.
